About the program
How do I get accepted into the master's degree
program?
Before you accumulate 12 hours of course work (four courses), complete the application process.
All graduate students are required to submit scores from the GRE (Graduate
Record Examination), taken within the last five years.
What courses are offered during the upcoming
semesters?
Check
current course and
enrollment information. If you experience difficulty with enrolling, contact
the MU Direct Student Services at 1-800-545-2604.
Is there a final examination for the M Ed?
Master
of Education candidates must complete a terminal project or summative experience
at the end of the degree program. The department in which the Master of Education
candidate's major emphasis resides will determine the format of that experience
(e.g., comprehensive exam, project, paper, presentation, portfolio or capstone
experience). The candidate must be enrolled at the University during the semester
in which a master's project is presented or completed.
Will this program provide me withschool counselor
or teacher certification?

This
online program was designed to meet the needs of school professionals who are
seeking a master's degree. It does not provide school counselor certification,
nor does it provide the initial certification required to become a teacher.
If
you are seeking initial certification, the following information may be helpful:
- Missouri certification
The online master's degree is intended for those who already hold initial certification,
and course work for this degree may not apply to initial certification requirements.
If you wish to obtain initial teacher or school counselor certification, you must
complete certification requirements through an institution authorized by the Missouri
Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to offer your certification area.
You should contact an institution near you to determine what you would need for
certification and if any of these courses would be acceptable in its program.
- Other states
This graduate degree does not include course work or experiences intended
for use in initial teacher or school counselor certification.
If you are interested in seeking initial teacher or school counselor certification
please be aware that your state certification requires specific course work and
experiences in order to obtain a certificate. It is possible that a few of the
courses could be used, but you would need to check with your state education department
to determine which courses they require and how many of the courses in this degree
could be applied for certification.
