The online educational specialist degree with a focus in mental health is designed for professionals who work with children and adolescents in the schools, and have completed a master's degree program in a related field. To earn the EdSp degree, students will complete 30 hours from among the available courses. Students are required to collaborate with their advisors to select the appropriate courses based on individual educational and professional experience, as well as personal interests.
This program is designed to equip professionals with the knowledge and skills to address the significant mental health issues facing today's schools. Professionals will gain awareness of mental health issues and how they affect student academic performance and social interaction. Professionals will also learn skills to promote positive mental health, encourage positive social emotional development and increase student learning. In addition, the program is designed to provide professionals with the awareness and skills to promote their own resilience and mental well-being. All courses will be offered online.

This program does not provide school counselor certification.
Students may enroll in up to 12 credit hours of course work (four courses) prior to admission to the degree program. This allows an opportunity to begin course work before initiating the admission process.

For these hours to transfer into the student's degree program admission must be finalized and the student must be admitted to the program by completion
Upon acceptance
Once you have been accepted into the EdSp program focusing on mental health practices in schools, you must comply with all department and graduate school policies. As you progress through the program, you will complete the forms listed below and submit them to your advisor.
Note
In lieu of a written comprehensive exam, all EdSp students are required to submit a portfolio during their last semester and at least one month prior to graduation.
